Title: The Viper (Untamed Hearts, #1)
Author: Kele Moon
Genre: Erotic / Contemporary Romance
Release Date: August 19, 2014

Marcos Rivera is a fighter. A gang member. Someone who has seen the dark side of humankind and survived. He has lost family and gained enemies. He has stolen cars and destroyed hearts, stripping one for money and the other for pleasure. His past is haunted and his future is bleak.

Until her.

Katie Foster is a high school history teacher. Smart, strong, and sexy. She is a woman Marcos shouldn’t want. Shouldn’t touch. Shouldn’t love. He met her in Garnet, a backwards, hick town that’s the last place in the world he wants to be, but he finds himself going back for a taste of the forbidden.

Katie represents all that is good in the world, and Marcos knows he’s nothing but trouble for her perfect life. He fights and he screws. He commits crimes and he breaks the rules. He will never change and he will never escape his gang lifestyle.

Or can he?

What happens when two different people from two very different walks of life risk it all by giving into the passion that threatens to consume both of them? Can a woman who only knows how to play it safe give her heart to a man who lives hard and loves harder?

Will she survive The Viper?

Author Bio:

A freckle faced, redhead born and raised in Hawaii, Kele Moon has always been a bit of a sore thumb and has come to enjoy the novelty of it. She thrives off pushing the envelope and finding ways to make the impossible work in her story telling. With a mad passion for romance, she adores the art of falling in love. The only rules she believes in is that, in love there are no rules and true love knows no bounds.

So obsessed is she with the beauty of romance and the novelty of creating it she’s lost in her own wonder world most of the time. Thankfully she married her own dark, handsome, brooding hero who had infinite patience for her airy ways and attempts to keep her grounded. When she leaves her keys in the refrigerator or her cell phone in the oven he’s usually there to save her from herself. The two of them now reside in Florida with their three beautiful children who make their lives both fun and challenging in equal parts–They wouldn’t have it any other way.

My Review~4 Stars

Kele Moon is a phenomenal writer who doesn’t shy away from writing about the darker aspects of life. The Viper is no excerption and deals with something that I’ve been waiting for and looking for in books for awhile.  The biker boys many of us are guilty of fawning over have nothing on Los Corrados (apologies if I got the gang wrong). In The Viper our main character is a too hot Puerto Rican from the wrong side of the tracks in Miami and carries the emotional and physical scars to prove it. Once in a gang, always in a gang but that doesn’t stop a scorching romance from shaking things up.

Marcos is the complete opposite of Katie. So opposite in fact, the two would probably never have reason to speak or even look the other in the eye if it wasn’t for a car accident literally crashing them together. The accident may be the cause of much pain but for Katie it gives her the push her life needs and she realizes living dangerously is something she’s never done and doesn’t want to live any other way. Katie doesn’t get the attraction. Sure Marcos is hot but he’s from a gang and just got out of jail, he lives in Miami and she’s a gringa, who teaches high school history school no less.
Sparks are always flying when these two are together. After the initial accident some time passes by and the majority of the story between the characters happens in a very short time span fleshed out when they meet again. Considering the scare factor of Marcos being in a gang I really expected more violence or even fighting especially at the climax but everything sort of gets smoothed over and the past serves more in reflecting violence. I wouldn’t say the story wasn’t hardcore or even nail biting, I just wanted a more inside look into Marcos’s gang-life.

Overall I was once again amazed and awed by the talent of Kele Moon. This series is the first of many more great and jaw-dropping reads, it’s easy to tell. I’m really hoping Chuito’s book is next. The series is new but does feature characters from the Battered Hearts series. It can be read as a stand-alone and reader’s need not read Battered Hearts to understand but they are great books and I highly recommend at least adding them to you T-B-R.

Clipped Wings Review

August 20. 2014

Clipped Wings (Clipped Wings #1)
by:Helena Hunting

Blurb ~
An emotional love story that follows the touch-and-go relationship of Hayden and Tenley; two young people who desperately want to love and be loved but are afraid to completely let go of their pasts.

As Hayden and Tenley navigate their newfound but slightly unstable relationship, they want to trust each other, but Hayden is hiding a dark and shameful past that he doesn't ever want Tenley to find out about. And Tenley has secrets of her own that could make Hayden run away forever. When Tenley asks Hayden to put a beautifully elaborate tattoo across her back, the two form what they thought was an unshakeable bond. But when Tenley's past shows up on her doorstep, will Hayden stand by her side...or run?

My Review & Rating
 4 "Winged" Stars
So after hearing about this book I wanted to see what the fuss was all about. Surprisingly I knew this was originally written as fan-fic and has since been re-edited, but I didn’t get that vibe at all. Sure this fits in a NA category seamlessly but the dynamic and relationship between Hayden and Tenley read as realistic drama rather than contrived writing based off something else.
Tatted bad boy lovers will immediately side with Hayden. Always the rule breaker, Hayden doesn’t hide behind anything and carries all his pain for the world to see. Covered in tattoos that mark and symbolize his journey through life, Hayden has finally found his place in the world, until Tenley comes and throws him off axis.

There is no insta-love but there is so much lust floating between the two it was hard not to be caught in the crossfire. Tenley is hesitant to act on any attraction to Hayden. He’s completely opposite of everything she knows and even though he too has pain in his past, he wears it and Tenley is still hiding behind her walls. Her plan to change this involves Hayden and 20+ hours of tattooing.

The entire story was very enjoyable to read with few to no slow parts. Both Hayden and Tenely have ghosts and demons in their pasts, things they are hesitant to share but then again neither ever saw their attraction turning into something more. Something neither expected and something Tenley doesn’t know if she’s ready for.

The side characters were a pleasant addition, I think my favorite is Lisa the piercer at Inked Armor. Considering the circumstances surrounding Tenley’s past, she needs a friend more than anything and these inked comrades (that most people would silently judge) are the only ones she feels comfortable with.
Overall I really enjoyed the story and have already started on the second. Suffice it to say I hated the end… Huge cliffy so make sure you have the next available. Helena Hunting has certainly written a novel of the times and I can see why so many fans adore it. However that being said I do not think it is worth the 7+ dollars it is being sold for on Amazon. Thanks to NetGalley for this copy I or probably would have passed on the whole series. Recommended for lovers of ink, bad boys, heartache, drama and even more drama.

“Lex, I love you,” he whispered.

I sucked in a breath of air and fought like hell to keep the tears from falling. It wasn’t the first time he’d ever said it to me, but this time, it felt so…different. A tear fell, and he quickly brushed it away with his lips as he let out a low, soft moan.

“You have no idea how hard it is for me not to make love to you every time I’m with you. I want nothing more than to be with you, but I want it to be right. I want it to be perfect for you. I don’t want us to sneak into a barn or do it in a car. You deserve so much more than that, sweetheart. I want to make you feel special the first time we make love.”

Wow. Oh…just wow. My breaths were coming out faster. I looked at his lips as I licked mine.

He closed his eyes. “You drive me mad with desire, Alexandra. You have to know that.”

Oh dear God…I think I might have an orgasm…right now…right here.

When he opened his eyes, they were filled with something I’d never seen before. The intense feeling of need I had for him grew about a hundred times.  I tried to talk, but only a whisper came out, “Will…”

When his lips touched mine, I let out a moan. I opened my mouth to him so that our tongues could explore each other like they had done a hundred times before. I brought my hands up and ran them through his hair. When he pushed himself into me, I felt his hard-on, and I wanted to wrap my legs around him so badly.

The kiss started to become passionate…until I heard someone clear his throat. I snapped my eyes open right as Will pulled back and scrunched up his face.

“Shit,” he whispered so that only I could hear.

He took a few steps away from me as he ran his hand through his hair.
Lord, help me.

I wanted this boy, and even though I knew we had just been caught making out in my father’s barn, my desire for him was so intense that I wanted to cry. I never took my eyes off of him.

He winked at me before turning to the side. “Dad, Gunner, um…I mean, Mr. Mathews…um…I mean, sir…”

I closed my eyes and took in a deep breath. Oh…holy…hell. My father just caught me making out in his barn.

I tried to compose myself as I pushed off the wall and turned to face my father and Will’s father, Josh. I wanted to giggle over Will struggling on how to address my father, but when I looked into my dad’s eyes, I knew that wouldn’t be the smartest thing to do.

“So…” Josh started to say as he shook his head and smiled at Will.

“Damn, boy…you picked the wrong girl to get caught making out with in her daddy’s barn.”

I quickly glanced over at Will, who looked at my father and then back at his dad. He smiled slightly, but then he looked back at my father and swallowed hard.

Dragging in a deep breath, my father looked at us. “Alex, Will…I think y’all need to head on up to the house and wait for us on the back porch.”

Will and I looked at each other, and at the same time, we said, “Yes, sir.”

As we walked out of the barn, Will grabbed my hand right in front of my father.

Will looked at me, winked, and whispered, “I think that went well.”

I just looked at him with my mouth hanging open. “You must have a death wish.”
