Don't Lie to Me
by:Stacey Lynn
4 Stars ★★★★
Blurb ~ What do you do when the man you love leaves, and the only man you’ve wanted since is the one you can’t have?
When Emma’s first love walked away after learning she was pregnant, she was forced to pick up the pieces, re-evaluate her priorities, and change the course of her dreams all for the sake of her son, who became the only one who mattered.
It also meant taking a job with Jack McMillan; powerful, sexy, controlled, and CEO of McMillan Holdings. Emma has spent the last several years keeping her dreams and fantasies of Jack to herself, but one night, and one encounter, changed everything.
Once the walls between them are dropped and the truth is laid bare, will Jack and Emma’s new relationship be able to survive? When they are forced to confront their pasts, will they learn to finally put their trust in someone else, or will the lies that are told destroy them both?
My Review
For five years Emma has worked for Jack McMillan. For just
as long, Emma has lusted after him and maybe even loved him. Jack is gruff,
rich and demanding, not once letting on that he is even the slightest bit
attracted to Emma. However, when Emma came to him, pregnant and looking for a
job, Jack not only hired her as his assistant, cook and housecleaner but also
took in her son and gave them both a chance at a life.
After a blind date set up that doesn’t exactly work out,
Emma is shocked to find Jack with a jealous gleam in his eye. After a heated
kiss and immediate dismissal, Emma’s mind and emotions are all over the place.
When Jack admits to having feelings for Emma, she couldn’t be more happy or
scared.
As if their relationship has been in the works for the past
five years, Emma and Jack jump right into a heated affair. Jack is beyond hot
and takes elevator orgasms to a whole other level. (I’m surprised the sexual
tension didn’t fray the elevator cables and plummet them to their death.)
Jack loves Emma’s son. Jack is like the father he’s never
had and often spoils him much to Emma’s dismay. When Emma realizes the new
lawyer Jack has hired is the long lost father of her son she is none too
pleased considering the exit he took from her life.
Being rich always has its downsides and unfortunately Emma
and Jack get caught in the middle of a political mess. Her ex’s father is
trying to ruin everyone’s life and between Jack and Emma he may just succeed.
Emma has to decide if Jack is worth her heart and if she can stick around long
enough to find out.
I can’t lie and say I wasn’t disappointed in Jack at times.
He was cruel and often more harsh than Emma deserved. For some reason she took
it. But when it comes to her son, Emma pulls no punches and makes sure Jack
knows he’s the number one man in her life and always will be, even if Jack has
more epic moves in bed than she ever imagined.
Overall I enjoyed this story. I’m a sucker for a baby story
and this was certainly an interesting read. At times I was reminded of
Beautiful Bastard, but at the same time this book had enough
originality and character to stand out on its own. I’m glad everyone and
everything was able to be worked out, the tension at times was so high within
the story that it felt like a reality TV show.
