Lawful Overdose

3.5 Stars ★★★☆
Blurb ~ *Warning: This book is for mature audiences. It contains drugs, sex, underage drinking, harsh language, and is panty melting hot!
Since the death of her sister, Tessa Grayson is invisible at home. Her parents barely speak to her or show any affection, so Tessa seeks affection from men.
It’s the summer going into Tessa’s junior year of college. Instead of going home for the summer, she stays in her small college town with her best friend and roommate, Piper. To make money, Tessa and Piper waitress at a local bar and grill. It’s a hotspot for college kids and a few townies.
On her first night working after a depressing visit with her parents, she meets Jaxon Wyatt. Jaxon just transferred to Eastern for his senior year of college to be closer to his brother. He is mysterious and badass, exactly what Tessa wants, but is trying to stay away from.
After a night of wild partying, Tessa is looking to get lost in Jaxon. Their attraction is undeniable, but Jaxon wants more. Jaxon and Tessa become closer, but he is hiding a secret. A secret that could break the bond he and Tessa share.
What will happen when Tessa finds out that Jaxon isn’t who he claims to be? Can Tessa continue a relationship with someone who supports everything she’s against, or does Jaxon have one more secret up his sleeve?

After losing her sister Tessa becomes a loner in her own
family. She despises anything drug related and even with hippie parents and a
carefree attitude Tessa is one chick who knows what she wants. Some would call
her scandalous, others a tramp. I may have seen her that way in the beginning
but her promiscuous ways just allow her to lose herself and find comfort in the
arms of someone else, even if it’s just for a little while.
When Tessa meets Jaxon, brother of her boss, the last thing
she wants is a relationship. He gets her motor running and Tessa tries all she
can to get him into bed, or the utility closet. Jaxon wholeheartedly returns
Tessa’s affections however he’s not willing to jump right into bed with her if
that’s all he’s going to get. Jaxon sees more in Tessa and wants her to realize
he doesn’t just see her as a warm body to lose himself in.
So starts the seduction of Tessa. Jaxon continues to flip
all her switches and often times leaves her far beyond the normal reaches of
sexually frustrated. Since Tessa never thinks to question Jaxon’s transferring
his final year of college she never suspects anything out of the ordinary. I’m
sure from the title like me you get an idea of what the story will entail and
in some ways I wish the title was different since it gives such a big hint
away.
I was upset by how fast everything went. I feel like much of
the story could have been fleshed out more, it was interesting enough that I
just wanted more and to see Tessa realize more for herself. When she catches
Jaxon in a lie, I honestly can’t say I blame her decision. Some may see her as
overreacting but I was behind her 100%. It’s rather funny because I was unsure
if I would like the story at all in the beginning but it continually got better
and I extremely happy about that.
Overall I really enjoyed this book. Sure I wish it was
longer and there were things I wished were given more attention but overall I
felt it was a very solid and interesting read. There are, as usual, more adult
topics discussed and drugs play a role but nothing that will make you think
less of any of the characters. The sex was hot, the drama was intense and I
will look forward to more from recent and new author Justine Elvira.
