Saving Ella (Mercy's Angels #1)
by:Kirsty Dallas
4 Stars ★★★★
Blurb ~ The protection every child is owed was lost on Ella Munroe. Her tiny body was beaten, bruised, cut and bloodied. And the thing about pain, it demands to be felt……. While searching for affection, Ella gave away her body and her escape was found in drugs. Self-loathing led to self-destruction and she tried to cut that hate from herself. They say pain makes you stronger, fear makes you braver; Ella had more strength and bravery than most. With her head down, scars covered and heart locked behind a wall of steel Ella ran. On the streets she may have found her freedom but she was still alone, until she found ‘Mercy’s’, until she found Jax.
Born a warrior, Jaxon Carter could intimidate with no more than a glance, but this warrior was not born to destroy, he was born to protect. To Jax, Ella was much more than a tiny beaten girl, Ella was an angel. Ella was Jax’s angel, she was his to protect and cherish. She was his to love and although Ella’s first instinct was to run, Jax made her yearn for things she had long forgotten. In capturing her heart, Jax freed Ella. In embracing her imperfections, Jax owned Ella. Sometimes though, you have to fight for love and sometimes blood is destined to run a river. Sometimes, hate trumps love.
All Jax had to do was keep Ella safe, it all seemed so easy…
My Review
Ella has a harmful past. A life that lead her to a life of
running and hiding. Lucky for Ella there’s no one better she could have run
into than into warrior Jaxon, whose mother owns Mercy’s, a shelter for abused
women.
Though big and abrasive Jax is a softie at heart and he
immediately senses a kindred spirit in Ella All Jax can think about is
protecting her and keeping her safe always. But getting close to Ella is no
easy feat. She trusts no one and still has nightmares lurking in her closet.
With help from Jax, his mother and the others in the
shelter, in time Ella is able to become her own person and discover how to live
her life on her terms. Jax is by her side the whole time and is always pushing
her to believe more in herself. But as always sometimes our pasts come knocking
and it’s up to Ella to confide in Jax and allow him to help.
I really enjoyed this story and though it was pretty tame
for the most part I wouldn’t have it any other way. Ella has not had an easy
life and still continues to suffer through it. She struggles and works hard to
feel worthy. Jax may seem like a big alpha-male and he is when the situation
warrants, but more often than not he’s the kindhearted young man helping an old
woman with her groceries or helping a kitten in a tree. Together Jax is able to
pull Ella from her shell and even if he has to work hard to do so, he gives it
everything he’s got and won’t stop till Ella is 100% happy. We could only all
be so lucky to find our own Jax. Definitely looking forward to more from this
series. Great beginning!
