Promises, Promises
by: Janice Baker
4 Stars ★★★★
Blurb ~ Isabella “Izzy” McKenna just came out of a two year, well, she couldn’t really call it a relationship. It was more like two years of being dominated and controlled by a handsome, domineering and powerful man.
When she finally decides to leave him, after he finally pushes her too far, she revives her friendship with her best friend from college.
Little did Izzy know that rekindling her friendship would also throw her into an amazing loving relationship with a gorgeous fun, but at times jealous, bar owner named Z.
Will Izzy’s horrible childhood and past controlling relationship keep her from finally finding the love that she’s always searched for? Or will he ruin the love that is finally just in her grasp?
Review
We’ve all had someone lie to us, break our hearts, and break
a promise. Izzy has had her fair share of promises thrown her way and they’ve
all fell flat. She’s hardened her heart to anyone trying to get in and never
takes promises seriously.
After getting out of a controlling and verbally abusive
relationship, Izzy moves closer to an old friend. Soon after she meets bar
owner, Z. and the two begin a more balanced relationship than Izzy is used to.
This story was very cut and dry. Clearly Izzy has issues from
her past and Z has to learn the best way to approach things in regards to her feelings
and reactions. I enjoyed the dual POV’s
but I was thrown for a loop by Z’s decision to follow her because ‘she had to
be cheating on him.’ I found this absurd as her issues made it harder than
normal for her to even begin a relationship with him and I mean really, he’s
following her, WTF!!
Basically her ex is beyond a P.O.S. Z is like a new world to
Izzy as she realizes how much she’s been missing out on. And what she had with
HIM is nothing compared to the feelings of love she has with Z. Overall it was
a fairly typical NA romance with a hurt female lead trying to overcome her past
with a hot hunky guy at her side. This was a quick and easy read, easily finishable
in one sitting so if you need something to read before your next big
mind-bender this may it. Easily a 4 Star read.
