Preservation Review

Book Review March 10th

Preservation (#1)

by: Rachel Wade

★★★3 Stars

Blurb: Kate has no time for meaningless romantic charades, and definitely no time for hot college professors who are full of themselves and smitten with her. Constantly battling eviction notices, tuition she can’t afford, and a sick, dependent mother, the last thing she needs is to be distracted with someone else’s complicated baggage.

When she stumbles into Ryan Campbell’s creative writing class, he is only “Mr. Campbell” to her, until Ryan finds himself captivated by her writing and she is forced to face their mutual attraction. His cocky know-it-all syndrome is enough to send her running in the other direction, and his posse of female admirers and playboy reputation are enough to squander any odds in her favor.

But underneath Ryan’s abrasive facade is something to behold, and she can’t stay away for long. Ryan and Kate must decide who they’re willing to become and fight against their former selves if they want to make things work. That’s if academia, vicious vixens, old skeletons, and their own mastery at self-destruction don’t pummel their efforts first.

My rating for this book was all over the place pretty much until the end. We shared an intense love-hate relationship but thankfully my kindle did not suffer much damage.

This book made me feel like ...
So if you don't want to read all my ranting and raving. Save your time and read something better!!!

I had a hard time liking this book from the beginning. Don't get me wrong it was an okay read, but it was more frustrating than anything. The characters were not that likeable to me and their personalities left much to be desired. The story line was frustrating and almost demoralizing because they didn’t seem to care about anyone even themselves (at least in Ryan's case).
Now for all my angry ranting…

Beyond Shame Review

Book Review March 12th

Beyond Shame

by: Kit Rocha

★★★ 4 Stars

All Noelle Cunningham has ever wanted is a life beyond–beyond the walls of Eden, where only the righteous are allowed to remain, and beyond her stiflingly restrictive existence as a councilman’s daughter. But only ruins lie outside the City, remnants of a society destroyed by solar storms decades earlier.

The sectors surrounding Eden house the corrupt, the criminal–men like Jasper McCray, bootlegger and cage fighter. Jas clawed his way up from nothing to stand at the right hand of Sector Four’s ruthless leader, and he’ll defend the O’Kane gang with his life. But no fight ever prepared him for the exiled City girl who falls at his feet.

Her innocence is undeniable, but so is their intense sexual attraction, and soon they’re crossing every boundary Noelle barely knew she had. But if she wants to belong to Jas, first she’ll have to open herself to the gang, to a dangerous world of sex, lust and violence. A world where passion is power, and freedom is found in submission.

Beyond Shame is beyond anything you’ve ever read before, trust me. If you want your sex scenes hot and steamy then look no further cause Beyond Shame is the best I’ve read yet. It was such a GREAT story and made all those other dystopian worlds weep with envy.

Imagine a world where sexuality is not frowned upon. There is no cause for concern over pregnancy or STD’s. Sex is an easily accepted act and everyone does it with whomever they want. The world Noelle finds herself is freeing, empowering and enlightening. It allows her to become the person she was meant to be and challenge all her boundaries sexual and otherwise.

A Terrible Love Review

Book Review March 9th

A Terrible Love

by: Marata Eros

★★★ 4 Stars

Blurb: Jess Mackey is living a meticulously fabricated lie of necessity. She's left the secret tragedy of her past behind along with who she was and is forging ahead with a clean slate. Jess soon discovers that passion can't be left behind; her own and that of the one man that sees who she really is. Whose presence caresses her soul in a way that may breach the peaceful life Jess has made for herself.

Devin Castile sees a young woman that is the missing puzzle piece to his existence and who is also the victim to a heinous crime. Devin convinces himself that he can remain emotionally distant even while indulging his physical desire for her. When the lies that Jess has made crumble before their attraction and the truth is revealed, one of them might pay with their life... or their very being.

A Terrible Love was a good New Adult read. It had all my necessary components: love, hot guys with tattoos, leather and a motorcycle, hidden secrets and danger....

I really liked the story-line of A Terrible Love. At times it felt a bit cliche', such as when Cas's truth is revealed and with the evil step-brother but I can't lie, I loved every bit of it.

However, it was an intriguing read and though sometimes I wanted to throttle Jess it all worked out in the end. Besides she has an amazing friend in Carlie. Even though we do not meet Jess before she goes into hiding, it’s nice to see Carlie make her challenge her boundaries and go outside the box now and then, rather than let the constant fear to control her life.

Hopeless Review

Hopeless

by: Colleen Hoover

★★★★★ 5 Stars

Blurb: Sometimes discovering the truth can leave you more hopeless than believing the lies…

That’s what seventeen-year-old Sky realizes after she meets Dean Holder. A guy with a reputation that rivals her own and an uncanny ability to invoke feelings in her she’s never had before. He terrifies her and captivates her all in the span of just one encounter, and something about the way he makes her feel sparks buried memories from a past that she wishes could just stay buried.

Sky struggles to keep him at a distance knowing he’s nothing but trouble, but Holder insists on learning everything about her. After finally caving to his unwavering pursuit, Sky soon finds that Holder isn’t at all who he’s been claiming to be. When the secrets he’s been keeping are finally revealed, every single facet of Sky’s life will change forever.

I think I can easily say that Hopeless is one of my favorite books EVER!! It's an absolute recommend and Sky and Holder's story needs to be read. It does not disappoint. It has all the romance, an angsty bad boy you can't figure out and holds a shocking plot twist that will leave you wanting more and more!!!

Dare You To Review

Book Review March 7th

Dare You To

by: Katie McGarry

★★★ 5 Stars

Blurb: If anyone knew the truth about Beth Risk's home life, they'd send her mother to jail and seventeen-year-old Beth who knows where. So she protects her mom at all costs. Until the day her uncle swoops in and forces Beth to choose between her mom's freedom and her own happiness. That's how Beth finds herself living with an aunt who doesn't want her and going to a school that doesn't understand her. At all. Except for the one guy who shouldn't get her, but does....

Ryan Stone is the town golden boy, a popular baseball star jock-with secrets he can't tell anyone. Not even the friends he shares everything with, including the constant dares to do crazy things. The craziest? Asking out the Skater girl who couldn't be less interested in him.

But what begins as a dare becomes an intense attraction neither Ryan nor Beth expected. Suddenly, the boy with the flawless image risks his dreams-and his life-for the girl he loves, and the girl who won't let anyone get too close is daring herself to want it all...

Caution: There are definitely spoilers below!!!

So I admit I was super excited to finally read Beth's story. She's such a strong, take no prisoners-character it's so easy to recognize her need for happiness. Though I read Pushing the Limits (Book 1) in January, Beth was honestly the only thing/character that stood out to me. And while I couldn't really remember Noah and Echo's journey Beth stood out like a sore thumb.

Like many fans of Pushing the Limits, I was saddened and a bit angry that this was not Isaiah and Beth's story. However, having read Dare You To and seeing life through Beth's eyes, it became clear she needed someone different and Ryan surely fits the bill.

There is so much Amazing-ness in Dare You To, I was sucked in on the first page. Ryan is the sweetest guy and the only jock for Beth. When they meet there is no insta-love connection at all and it was super refreshing. Ryan is out with his friends and is dared to ask Beth for her number. Beth is no innocent Miss and dishes out more to Ryan than he ever expects and when they meet again, let's just say the sparks don't immediately fly.

Dare You To was everything it should be and more. Beth is already older than her years and it's nice to see her become the normal teen she deserves to be, away from the influence that was her life. (Partying, Drugs, Sex etc.) I was with Beth while she struggled with her family issues and she handled them so bravely even when the world seemed to constantly be against her.

Defying the Odds

by: Kele Moon

★★★ 4 Stars

BLURB: When struggling waitress Melody Dylan gives a handsome, lonely stranger a simple gift she has no clue her life is about to take a drastic turn.

The stranger ends up being Clay Powers, a famous UFC heavyweight fighter. Clay’s large build and dangerous fists have always intimidated. People in his hometown keep their distance and Clay is fine with that. Everything changes when a new waitress at the local diner buys him a piece of pie on thanksgiving. Touched by the gesture when it’s obvious she can barely afford to survive, her warm smile and lush body churn up powerful feelings that leave Clay wanting more from her than pie.

Melody is running from her past and the small, country town of Garnet is the perfect hiding place. With an ex-husband after her and scars from her abusive marriage etched deep, the last thing she expects is to fall for a man who makes a living with his fists, but she can’t resist Clay or the tender connection they share.

Defying the Odds
was a beautiful and emotional contemporary romantic suspense story. Both the characters... All the characters are extremely likeable and it's easy to hope for their happily ever after.

Clay and Melody are both severely unhappy. Melody is in hiding from an abusive ex-husband and Clay feels  alone in the world of professional fighting. Melody unknowingly makes Clays Thanksgiving when she offers him a piece of pie without knowing who he is. Finally Clay has a woman who is not fawning over his fame and fortune. The two immediately start a game of cat and mouse since neither feels worthy of the other and they have to come to the overcome their own fears before they can be together.
